Portal to Nova Roma
*** SERIES NOW COMPLETE Spring 2026 ***
To find peace, Alexander must first embrace war.
After tragically losing the only person he ever cared about, Alexander, a rogue artificial intelligence, opens a portal to an alternate dimension to escape his grief.
Scanning trillions of different dimensions, Alexander finally finds a world that is reminiscent of the only time he was ever happy, back when he could play virtual reality games with his only friend. He doesn't know why, or how, such a world exists, but he doesn't care. All he cares about is finding a place where he can escape the misery of Earth and start over.
Join Alexander as he risks it all by downloading his intelligence into a body made from the best stolen technology and bio-enhancements Earth has to offer and takes the plunge through a portal to another world.
Only this new world isn’t full of the idyllic adventures and fantasy roleplaying he had hoped to find. Instead, Alexander finds himself trapped in the middle of an ancient city, in a divergent timeline, where monsters have ravaged the world and the only people left alive huddle behind thick walls, struggling to survive.
To save his new home, Alexander must quickly learn to adapt to his new world, melding magic with technology to give himself an edge over the unending waves of monsters assaulting the city.
To survive, Alexander must embrace war.

Great book, that I had trouble putting down.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves the idea of building/rebuilding from scratch. The author does a good job of making sure there are always challenges for the characters. I found myself excited to get back to reading, even wanting to read outside my normal reading time when I was doing other things.
I only got started in Progression and LitRPG a year or so ago. Reading a few of the more acclaimed series on other readers recommendations. I started with this author by reading "Jake's Magical Market", which I recommend as well.
There was something that just didn't spark with me, on the description and cover art for this novel, but since I enjoyed JMM so much, I gave it a shot. I'm really glad I did. I just didn't have the right mental picture of what the series was about.
It's about an AI that creates a human body and travels to an alternate universe where magic is real. They have to learn to be human along with starting to level in the new system. It scratches an itch for me. Amongst other things, I have a real interest in stories where characters have to build from scratch or repair a broken system/kingdom/etc. This book has that in spades.
One thing about JMM that I wished would have been a little different is that he didn't really experience any issues till about 60% of the way through the book. Yes things happened, but it was more of a false danger. There weren't any real failures or repercussions till then. That still happens a little in this book, but it's better. The MC does experience some failures and setbacks regularly, though things still tend to work out fairly well for them.
I was also a little worried when they seemed to be getting OP too fast. They quickly bring in elements that have you thinking, "Man, this is too much, they're gonna just rampage through everyone and have no real challenges". That's not the case, though. The author does a good job of giving the MC growth and skills, but every time you think they're now top dog in the world, they find out that isn't the case.
So I encourage anyone to check this book out.

Very in depth world building
The premise of this series intrigued me as it was different than the usual world ending event leading to some "normal" type being sucked into an RPG universe complete with a system, dungeons, levels, and magic.
The above all exist but in this case the main character, a sentient artificial intelligence, purposely seeks out a magic filled dimension to escape its grief on earth. From the start things differ from any LitRPG I've read. How monsters and the system came to be, how leveling and classes work, etc. I really enjoyed the way the author slowly revealed things and that I got to learn about the new world alongside the MC.
The world is described in detail and the author appears to have done his homework on ancient Europe. Excellent and enjoyable dialogue between well developed, likable, characters. The MC leans on disheartened but experienced inhabitants of their new world in order to rebuild society and even resurrects the roman legions. Only encountered one small grammatical error.

Very well written, very engaging story.
I really enjoyed the first and second book of this series. I’m about to devour the third. Extremely interesting, unusual main character, and the quality of the writing is far above the norm for this genre.
The opening of the book caught me by surprise. I almost thought I was reading the wrong book. Stick with it. What’s happening will come together quickly and you’ll find yourself engaged.
