Doppelgangers

The ability to make doppelgangers was something Alexander received from Achnimallen early in book 3.

These doppelgangers can take on any of his classes, skills, and even perks, but doing so will remove the class from the body who originally had them.

Alexander can make one doppelganger more every ten levels.

Some things (like attributes, achievements, and certain skills, like the Doppelganger skill itself) are shared between all the bodies. The general rule of thumb is that ‘spiritual’ things, like attributes and even the spirits themselves, are shared between every single one of the doppelgangers and the original body, whereas more physical and concrete things, like the vast majority of skills, are exclusive to each body.

If a doppelganger with a certain class or skill dies, that class or skill will be lost forever. Most classes and skills can only be learned once and passed once, after all.

Doppelgangers also share sleep and rest. Their mindscape is the same (since the soul is the same), so having one of his doppelgangers working on his mindscape almost exclusively has made his mental condition a lot more stable.

By the end of book 3, Alexander had several doppelgangers.

All doppelgangers:

  • Alexander Prime

    • The original body. Alexander doesn’t know yet if losing his ‘main’ body will cause all the others to die, but he believes that’s not the case.

  • Alexander the Monk

    • The first doppelganger he made. This doppelganger spends most of his time meditating and training with the rest of the monks at the monastery.

  • Alexander the Crafter

    • This doppelganger is considerably shorter than his original body and his monk version, standing at 5ft6. Crafting aside, this is the body he’s used when conducting diplomacy with Lyon and in the expedition he went to in book 3.

  • Alexander the Mage

    • This doppelganger, much like his crafter self, is shorter than his original body. He was made in the image of his crafter self.

    • He modified this body to have a magical core and the veins needed to use magic.

    • This doppelganger’s body has an iridescent core, something Alexander got from killing one of their world’s titans.
