Gods of Nova Roma

The temple that was trying to unite the dark elves and stop the spiders worshiped a different goddess,
Lamashtu, the goddess of the undead and vengeance. Normally, I wouldn’t think a goddess of the undead would be looking out for the best interests of the city, but according to rumors, this temple was a bit revolutionary when it came to the politics of the city, and it declared the spiders an anathema, vowing revenge for what they had done to the city.

Lamashtu is the Dark Elf Goddess of Undeath.

“The rumors are mostly true,” Alaunvayas said. “Aranea, the goddess most of our people worship, is the goddess of spiders. Some of our houses raised the large spiders and began experimenting, trying to find a way to fuse their own forms with the spiders, thinking they would become avatars of Aranea. The experiments angered Aranea, who is a jealous goddess. She freed the spiders, and once free, they bred in the tunnels and began to attack our hunters and traders.

Aranea is the Goddess of Spidersmany of the dark elves believe in.

“The last thing I heard was mention of some kind of deity that everyone is required to worship on the island,” Isabella said. “Different from the king, but often spoken of in the same conversation. I don’t know the details, but it seems like the king is either some kind of spokesperson for the deity or some kind of an avatar for the being. He has reportedly gained some very powerful abilities from the deity in return for his service. I don’t know for sure, but I’d be careful. If there really is a god active here, it could be very protective of its chosen people.”

“I, Quintus Sertorius, apostle of the Lord of the Great Abyss, the only true God left on this world, welcome you to another day of worship!”

The Lord of the Great Abyss is the god every one of the pirates (and the people of the Nation of the Judicates) follow. This god seems to get stronger by feeding on the souls of the dead, inciting a great amount of sacrificing from the pirates. They can also make other people stronger (the way the pirate king was shown getting stronger) by

The Lord of the Great Abyss also seems to have some sort of ability to influence people into following them, as being in their presence (as substantiated by the live demonstration that took place in the earlier parts of book 3) causes people to become euphoric and feel a maddening thrill that is nothing short of addictive. Even Alexander, with all the willpower he has, found it incredibly hard to resist the mental pull of this god.

This god can manifest thin black spectral tentacles and has the ability to open portals to, supposedly, the “realm” or dimension they inhabit.
