Dragons

If what she said was true, the “young” dragons I had seen were already the size of the drakes I had fought in the past. Each one was, at a minimum, thirty to forty feet long from snout to tail, and their bodies were almost ten feet across at the shoulder. If those were merely the young dragons, I was very interested to see how much larger they would become. How long until they reached the size of the dragon that looked down on the Tlihi city?

“As a new evolution,” she responded, “Ibizrivenori is now considered a wyrmling. Those are the smaller dragons I imagine you saw flying up from the city during the night. On average, it takes anywhere from ten to fifty years for a wyrmling to evolve into a young dragon, unless extraordinary measures are taken. The length of time depends on how many powerful monster cores they consume, the food they eat, and the power of their bond-mate.
“Back when we first came to this world, wyrmlings evolved much faster, but that was the first generation of our people to discover the dragon evolution. On our world, such an evolution would have deeply offended the elder dragons, but here, when the evolution appeared for the first time, many saw it as a sign, as I mentioned earlier. In reverence for having our ancestors with us once again, we fed them as many powerful monster cores as we could gather and many evolved within the first year or two. These days, the average time for a dragon to go from a wyrmling to a young dragon is around twenty years.”
“For a dragon to reach full maturity . . .” Quxtloc continued. “Well, suffice it to say, even if we had evolved one of our mounts as soon as we arrived on your world, we would still not have a dragon past the adult stage.”

She will gain more physical attributes as she grows, although her mental attributes will also continue to increase over time. Dragons are some of the most physically and magically powerful creatures in the world. An adult dragon can even take on classes and gain spells and skills much like a person.”

Ibi was currently a wyrmling, able to fly but often physically weak. As she progressed further into maturity, she would grow larger and eventually be able to use her breath weapon as her primary method of attacking and defending herself. When dragons reached the “young” stage, they were as large as the drakes I had fought and were considered as intelligent as a Tlihi—or human—while being significantly stronger and faster. When a dragon reached the adult stage of its development, it could unlock classes, much like a person could, could learn spells and skills, and became significantly stronger, faster, and more intelligent than most people. From there, the gulf between a dragon and a normal person became wider and wider. Adult dragons turned into elder dragons after a couple hundred years. Elder dragons could turn into ancient dragons after a thousand years. Ancient dragons became twilight dragons, and twilight dragons became immortal dragons. On the Tlihi homeworld, only three immortal dragons existed, and each one was said to be powerful enough to shatter their planet in two with a mere thought.
